Public policy for a global environment

  1. Some people have argued that the United States should achieve energy independence. Others argue that this is an impossible goal to achieve. Write an essay in which you discuss whether such a goal is feasible, thinking in terms of energy sources, economics and politics, among other factors. In your essay, include a discussion of why some favor such a goal. What three things might we do to reduce reliance on imported energy (mainly oil but increasingly natural gas)? What are the advantages and difficulties of each of your proposals?

Write an essay in which you discuss whether there has been improvement in the quality of our environment. Include in your essay a discussion of whether some alternative policies might have had better results.

Second, discuss why it is difficult to deal with issues such as this. Third, discuss policies adopted or proposed at all levels of government (including international) to deal with it, including their likely impact on the problem.
