Project Overview and instructions:
Students are required to research an existing sports event, sports club, or sports organisation (federation) and assess the following:
1) Describe the organisation (write an executive summary) and be sure to include in this description the organisation’s mission and vision (strategy). If none is given or cannot otherwise be identified, then please offer your own suggestion on what this company/organisation’s mission and vision could be.
2) analyse the organisation’s situation within the sports industry by using the (a) PESTEL and (b) SWOT analysis tools.
Overall Aim:
To gain an in depth understanding of the meaning, value and application of the PESTEL and SWOT business analysis tools.
To demonstrate that the student has learned how to apply these concepts to an existing organisation. To demonstrate that the student is able to organise, illustrate and present the findings in a written report in a structured, understandable way.
Learning Outcomes:
1. Demonstrate an understanding of the key management theories and principles relevant in the sports industry.
2. Identify and distinguish theories and models across a range of sport management disciplines.
Organisation & Methodology:
Students will produce a report of no more than 2’000 words (+/- 5%). In this report students will make their analysis and will justify their findings with the research they have done.
The chosen sports club/business/organisation must be presented to the lecturer by Week 12 for approval.
Resources Available: Library, Internet, Annual Reports, Case Studies, Course Book, Handouts, Newspaper or (Sports) Business Magazine Articles.

2. Students must upload their project (as one document either as a .docx or PDF) to Turnitin Anything that is handed in later than this deadline will receive a zero grade.
3. References: APA referencing in text that supports students’ research. Note: Wikipedia, Linkedin, Facebook and Scrib are not valid resources.
4. The document must be written in the third person (formal writing style) and must be proofread for spelling and grammar errors. It must be well readable and should clearly identify the different parts of the analysis: a) executive summary of organisation, including mission & vision, b) SWOT c) PESTEL.
5. The student is required to submit a professionally presented document with distinguished sections, organised layout and comprehensive list of references (a minimum of 4 that supports students’ research and presented in APA format) Use of abbreviations and slang are not permitted.
6. The enclosed signed “STATEMENT OF AUTHORSHIP” must be included at the beginning of the document.
