Project Overview and instructions:
Students are required to research an existing sports event, sports club, or sports organisation (federation) and assess the following:
1) Describe the organisation (write an executive summary) and be sure to include in this description the organisation’s mission and vision (strategy). If none is given or cannot otherwise be identified, then please offer your own suggestion on what this company/organisation’s mission and vision could be.
2) analyse the organisation’s situation within the sports industry by using the (a) PESTEL and (b) SWOT analysis tools.
Overall Aim:
To gain an in depth understanding of the meaning, value and application of the PESTEL and SWOT business analysis tools.
To demonstrate that the student has learned how to apply these concepts to an existing organisation. To demonstrate that the student is able to organise, illustrate and present the findings in a written report in a structured, understandable way.
Learning Outcomes:
1. Demonstrate an understanding of the key management theories and principles relevant in the sports industry.
2. Identify and distinguish theories and models across a range of sport management disciplines.
Organisation & Methodology:
Students will produce a report of no more than 2’000 words (+/- 5%). In this report students will make their analysis and will justify their findings with the research they have done.
The chosen sports club/business/organisation must be presented to the lecturer by Week 12 for approval.
