Ronald Reagan and the Triumph of American Conservatism

Jules Tygiel in the book, Ronald Reagan and the Triumph of American Conservatism, recount on the life of Reagan and the historical politics, social economic and international issue that affected the leadership and governance of United States.   The paper analyses how the historical social, political, economic, cultural, and global factors relate to the present day issues.

United States had undergone numerous transformation in its governance because of the different calibers of leaders that it had since its independence.  The issues concerning political, economy, and foreign policy have remained integral in the lives of America people.   For instance, when Reagan ascended to power in 1980, he brought changes in the leadership of the country.  He improved the economy that was growing at a slow rate.  He also impacted on the politics of the day. He entrenched conservatism in the American people (Jules, 2006). This ideology was contributed by his ideologies and his style of leadership.   Since then, the American politics has remained that of conservatism  as people believe in either democratic or republic ideologies and changing the people from their ideologies has not been easy.

The foreign policy of US on war has also varied with the government of the day. Reagan’s government policy was some how dangerous and imperialistic and this nearly plunged the country into war with its core rivals Soviet Union.  In the present times, the leadership has tended to enhance positive relationships based on consensus and discussion. The economy has also gone through a turbulent time, recovering and at times slowing down.  The social and culture of American has always been preserved through the unity of the citizens. The constitution of the USA has always remained supreme and has helped in creating the core values in which people and leaders abide to. Therefore, America’s history has evolved and the present America is shaped by its history.
