Self-Assessment and Personal Action Plan

To plan for personal development, you must first assess your readiness for successful consulting roles. Through a reflective process of self-assessment, you will better understand your strengths and weaknesses relevant to consulting. As you learn more about a successful consulting engagement in this course, you will further reflect and analyze your readiness. This assignment will eventually lead to your revised personal action plan in Module 8.

 

Complete a self-analysis based on the list of competencies in the appendix to the following journal article:

 

l   O’Driscoll, M., & Eubanks, J. (1993). Behavioral competencies, goal setting, and OD practitioner effectiveness [Electronic version]. Group and Organizational Management. 18(3), (20 pages).

 

Based on your self-assessment, develop a personal action plan. Your personal action plan should include:

 

l   An assessment of your skills, beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors related to:

  1. Contracting
  2. Data utilization
  3. Intervention
  4. Implementation
  5. Interpersonal skills
  6. Group process management
  7. Maintenance of client relations

l   A list, description, and explanation of barriers and challenges to your readiness for the role of a consultant

l   A detailed plan of action to reinforce and maximize your strengths and overcome weaknesses

l   A discussion of how your plan will affect your work in your current role (Project Manager of a small IT firm) and as a consultant

 

Format:

l   Your self-assessment and personal action plan should be presented as a Microsoft Word document.

l   All written assignments and responses should follow APA rules for attributing sources.
