Write an argumentative essay that is between 1,200 and 1,400 words long on one of the following topics (the word count is comprised of only the words within the essays paragraphs). Your essay, which counts 15% of your entire course grade, must have the following:
A standard argumentative structural pattern as discussed in class, whereby only one reason is given for each body paragraph with an optional refutation paragraph
An engaging introduction paragraph with a strong thesis statement
Body paragraphs that support your thesis with plenty of details and examples
A strong conclusion paragraph
Only one or two sources
Your essay must follow MLA formattingthat is, double-spaced, with one-inch margins, in Times New Roman with a 12-point font, as well as with the appropriate last name and page numbers. Also, the total length of all quotations (both direct and indirect) should be no more than 15% of your entire paper, and appropriately-placed parenthetical citation(s) and a fully-sourced works cited page must accompany the essay. Finally, all of the sources that you quote should be credible, meaning you cannot use websites like Wikipedia, blogs, discussion board postings, etc.
The rough draft of this essay is due during Week 14. In order to receive any credit for your draft, you must submit it into the Essay #4 Rough Draft Discussion Board in the Week 14 folder as a single Microsoft Word attachment with the file extensions .doc or .docx only, and your draft must be at least 1,200 words long (only the paragraphs of the essay count). The final draft is due during Week 15, and it must be uploaded into the Essay #4 Dropbox as a single Microsoft Word attachment with the file extensions .doc or .docx only.
Failure to comply with any of these essay requirements will result in a substantial deduction of points. Failure to document all sources completely (i.e., plagiarism)whether intentionally or unintentionallywill result in an automatic zero for the essay.
