Rationale (Why):
In everyday life, at college, or in the workplace, you often need to take a position and convince someone else to support your point of view or persuade someone to take action on an issue. When you write for these purposes, you’re doing persuasive writing. This writing task allows you to practice exploring an issue about which you can take up a clear position using the persuasive strategies that we’ve discussed in class: narration, description, and example.
The Writing Task (What):
Consult the basics of writing persuasive papers as explained in Chapter 14 of Essay Essentials (p. 180-188) and in the resources provided on eConestoga.
Choose one of the topics listed below and formulate your own position as a clear and concise thesis statement. Complete the attached outline to help you organize your ideas.
Write a persuasive paper based on your outline convincing your audience to adopt your point of view.
Include one external source that supports your position. Apply the feedback from Writing Assignment 1 to help improve your writing overall.
