General Guidelines for Term Paper

A. Pick your topic. ( My topic is Vitamin D )
B. The following are single analytes or analyte panels that are run in the clinical lab on patient blood or urine samples to aid the medical team in the diagnosis of disease or the monitoring of therapy. Please choose one for your paper and explain:

– What the analyte is or what the analytes in the panel are
-Why is the analyte or panel measured
-Where does the analyte or analytes come from
-What is the reference range for each analyte
-What does it indicate if the results for an analyte are higher or lower than the reference range
-What is the chemical structure of the analyte (if possible)

C. Locate a minimum of 3 sources on your topic. They must include at least two professional articles from a library database. One article may be from a quality on-line source for example: www.labtestsonline.org (not Wikipedia)

D. Using the outline from B organize and integrate the information from your sources and write your report. The paper must be in YOUR OWN WORDS. The paper should be 3-4 pages in length, double- spaced and in a 12 point type. Any table of Reference Ranges can be used directly from the source (be sure to identify the source) References should be listed on the last page using proper APA format. Every reference that you use must be listed on your last page. Do not list anything that you did not use. Attach a copy of each article that you used to your paper. If your reference article is 50 pages long, and you only acquired information from 5 pages; ONLY attach those 5 pages including the title of the article. There should be a reference given after every section you write. If you are quoting exactly, there must be a correct citation.
