Texas on the Brink

Texas on the Brink

The people of Texas have very little success to be proud of according to the contents of the 5th edition report titled ‘Texas on The Brink’ which is a yearly review that ranks all states on a number of factors from health matters to voter turn out. In spite of the fact that the state has one of the highest rates of birth, Texas ranks poorly when it comes to the number of women who have health insurance. The state also ranks poorly when it comes to the number of pregnant mothers receiving antenatal care in their first trimester of conception.

From the report released by the group mandated with the responsibility of legislation, which is a caucus in charge of research in the house of Texas in February, 2011, while Texas records one of the highest enrollment in public schools, it ranks poorest when it comes to the proportion of the population aged 25years and above with qualifications of equivalence to high school certificate. The same report indicates that Texas ranks as the state with the highest percentage of the population that lacks health insurance but ranks at 49th position when it comes to per capita spending on Medicaid. According to the same report, the state ranks last when it comes to its expenditure per person on mental health.

Here is a summary of how Texas ranks in comparison with other states:

  • Texas is in 47th position when it comes to expenditures per capita on tax.
  • The state ranks in position 50 when it comes to the percentage of the population aged 25 years and above with high school qualification.
  • Texas is ranked in position 48 when it comes to the percentage of the population who has a medical cover provided by the employer.
  • The state ranks in position 50 when it comes to the percentage of young women with a comprehensive health insurance.
