The Flower

This week\’s reading journal will take on a slightly different function that the earlier ones. You have specific tasks to complete. Note that you will need to follow proper APA format throughout. The tasks are:1. Paraphrase one longer (at least six lines) paragraph from the story. When you paraphrase you are simply rewriting the passage in your own words. Your paraphrase usually will be shorter than the original text.2. Quote two shorter passages (a sentence or two) from the story. In order to this properly you will need to have some kind of signal phrase (a sentence that introduces the quotation) and a sentence or two after that explains the quotation in context. You can look at this as a \”quotation sandwich.\” Below is both of an explanation of what that means and an example of how to do it.Graff and Birkenstein (2015) liken quoting to making a sandwich. They explain that “to adequately frame a quotation, you need to insert it into what we like to call a ‘quotation sandwich,’ with the statement introducing it serving as the top slice of bread and the explanation following it serving as the bottom slice” (p. 46). Their illustration helps us better understand what the basic format for quoting should look like. This journal, unlike the others, will be marked on a rubric. You will have marks for completing each element properly and marks for citation. The goal here is to prepare you for doing this on the essay.HERE IS THE LINK FOR THE READING:http://www.newyorker.com/magazine/2015/06/29/the-flowerIf you have any suggestion what to put as a topic i don\’t mind.
