The trials of vaccines against human papillomavirus showed a very high efficacy. However this was against lesions that are intermediate stage to cervical cancer. Is there a role for modelling here in assessing impacts on cervical cancer?

There’s really a few things to explore here – for instance how confident can we be of protection against cervical cancer when the trial couldn’t assess outcome directly? Could modelling help with this? And if so – what sort of things might affect the vaccine impact?
