Tourism and Event Management

 

1. I was studying a first year Interior Design course at MMU and realised in my first term that the course was not for me.

However, I carried on with the course in order not to disappoint my family, as I come from a creative and home development background.

I was set on taking a tourism and event management degree through out my sixth form years but in my final months decided to take a risk in taking Interior Design: now, I have realised that by doing so I am unhappy with the course and had made the wrong decision.

Touruim and Event management has been a passion of my since I frist started having interest in sixth form as I was involved in the organise of events which took place in the school

 

 

2. For my second year, I decided to take a gap year,

 

travel

I organised a trip for my job which I was working with the elderly and learning disability.

We spend a month in Ghana visiting

Kakum national Park

 

I had to consider the health, by which I mean, organizing the transport and accommodation which best suited there health condition.

 

I will also be travelling to spain (Barcelona and Madrid) in summer, which I organised for a group of friends and me. I planed and booked the event, sightseeing, flights, hotels and transport for the trip.

 

Also, I will be travelling to America (Michigan, New York, Chicago) in the summer.

 

3. Working as care assistant

 

(I have training in health and social care)

 

Responsible for the assisting in accounting, which I further developed studying business studies at A level.

Duties:

• Product acquisition (ordering clothes, groceries for clients)
• Supporting with hospital appointment
• I organise activity and holidays for the clients

Responsible for contributing to the overall performance of the store by driving sales at every opportunity, through delivering a friendly service, smiling, greeting and making eye contact with every customer that comes to the store.

I worked well with other members of staff, listened to instructions and was taught, silver service and preparing/decorating rooms for different functions. I had to work extra and unsociable hours when required and at time short notice.

 

4. This is from my other personal statement which I used for my first course. I cant use the same one but it tells u alitte about what I did in sixth form.

I have travelled to many places in Europe, looking at art and culture, and have gained a great deal from visiting Rome in particular. For example, I was struck by the opulence of the renaissance and baroque, which I saw in the Vatican, when compared to the more restrained classical architecture typified by the Pantheon, where the use of natural light transformed the building’s interior. In addition to my art subjects, business studies A-level has given me a grasp of topics such as marketing and finance, which will help me when I enter the commercial world.

One of my responsibilities is to organise the ‘dressing of rooms for school occasions, such as formal dinners and Christmas events. I also help with set and costume design and make-up for school plays. As Deputy Head Girl and Head of House, I enjoy helping out with the smooth running of the school, organising events such as the junior disco and meeting people at formal functions. I am a keen sportswoman, playing netball and rounders for the school. Much of my spare time is spent working as the CEO of Lucton Express, a student business selling confectionary, drinks and school supplies.
