The essay should be 5 pages in length and address some issue of victimology. You may choose a topic of interest or concern to you and examine the issue from the victimological perspective. What I am interested seeing is the topic you selected being examined through the lens of vicitmology and some of the issues that we have discussed this semester. Use whatever resources you deem necessary, there are no stated requirements for resources, although I am sure you will use at least one (the text)

SUPPORTING INFORMATION – 100 points
1. The essay should address an issue that affects victims of criminal activity
2. Select any issue that you believe is important or examine a specific element of a victimology.
3. Some issues, if appropriate, that could be addressed are:
– If a program is selected:
Reasons for the unit/program
History of the unit/program
Successes/failures of the unit/program
Legal issues or constraints
Organizational concerns
Pros and cons about the unit/program
Costs versus benefits
How the program or unit affects the mission of law enforcement
Any other dilemmas created that may affect law enforcement
– If an issue is selected:
Basis of the issue
How the issue affects victims
Attitudes of the formal CJ system toward the issue
Attitudes of the public toward the issue
CONCLUSION/OPINION – 50 points
A conclusion section that reiterates your key points and provides your observations or conclusions. Since this is an essay that allows you to provide an opinion or draw a conclusion, please do so in this section. Use the information included in the SUPPORTING INFORMATION section to support your argument or conclusion
