This question relies on Kaborycha, Short History, ch. 10. The paper has to discuss the terrible wars which were the result of Italy being invaded by Europe’s “great powers” and the political upheavals in Florence at the start of the paper. How did all the violence and disorder affect Machiavelli personally, because he was deeply involved in current affairs. What kind of leader did he hope for as the “answer” to Italy’s problems? Someone like Cesare Borgia? What qualities did Machiavelli see in such a man? Was Machiavelli right to suggest that such a man would be the answer to Italy’s troubles?
