Title of Assignment: Dominant Model of Internet Governance (Value = 200 points)
Concept:
The central theme of this assignment is for you as a student (and/or future IT professional) to consider in depth the issue of the current perceived dominance of the United States in internet governance.

Assignment Details:
You are to prepare a written report that addresses at least the following questions:

What do you see as the relative leadership role of the U.S. with respect all other stakeholders in the internet (equal/balanced, U.S. with greater/lesser power, etc.)?
On what basis do you draw the above conclusion?
What do you see as some of the outcomes of the current balance of internet oversight? (Frame this through whatever lens you prefer: stakeholders, issues, etc. You can be creative.)
How does the current balance of governance impact openness of the internet in your opinion?
In your judgment what are the current relative levels of dominance of the internet among the following stakeholder categories?
US Government
All other governments/countries
Industry (US)
Industry (non-US)
Individual Citizens
What, if any, other relevant stakeholder groups were omitted and should be included in this analysis? Why do you think they should be included in the governance of the internet?
What balance do you think there should be among these groups? Why?
Provide a hypothesis of how we might evolve to your recommended balance.
Structure of Submitted Report:

Your submitted report should be reflective of thorough (not cursory) analysis and presented in a professional and readable manner. While this is not an exercise in extensive writing, a thorough consideration of the assignment’s questions should require 3-5 pages of narrative discussion (APA, double line-spacing). If you require additional length to adequately support your position, feel free to write as much as you like.
While a full scholarly format (e.g., APA) is not required, you should strive to utilize (and properly recognize) outside sources. This would include a properly structured ‘References’ section that is in APA format with appropriate citations of outside sources included in the body of the narrative as needed.
Proper grammar, spelling and writing style should be applied throughout.
For the final presentation you can use a wide variety of digital text formatting resources including word processors (MS Word preferred), Wikis, Blogs, or other appropriate online presentation tools. All submitted work needs to come through the drop-box tool (see below) either as an attached full document or as a short posting that includes a link to the external web location where your report can be retrieved.
Grading Rubric:
Your assignment will be assessed according to the following guidelines:

Thoroughness of analysis relative to assignment expectations: 70% (140 pts)
Grammar/Writing/Style: 20% (40 pts)
Timeliness: 10% (20 pts)
Total: 100% (200 pts)
