why you think the Netflix analogy makes sense here, or why delivering and using kilowatt-hours is fundamentally different than an iPad experience.

Project description
Picture an assembly line, making any kind of physical product electronic equipment, clothing, food products, or even heavy transportation equipment like aircraft or railroad locomotives. The informed product and informed process views challenge us to think that every hand that touches a control every action taken on that factory floor in fact is in reality knowledge being put to use at that moment to transform and reshape one aspect of a physical system into another, and in doing so to add value to it.
Some would argue that it is this viewpoint that distinguishes an informatics or Code Halo centric view of manufacturing, from the more traditional views of manufacturing information management and control systems design and operation.
Do you agree? Or is calling the work that\’s done on the assembly line knowledge work twisting our definitions too far, bending them out of shape? Is it too much hype and not enough substance?
