Paper #2 is worth 80 points and is due on Monday Nov 9, 2015. To prepare for answering the question review chapters three (equality and injustice), four (nature and values of capitalism), and six (consumers), and read pgs. 320-325 (12th ed.) or pgs. 324-330 (13th ed.) “Why do we consume so much” by Juliet Schor.
Answer the following question in a 3-4 page essay:
Would it be good for us as individuals and for society as a whole to escape from the culture of excessive consumption? Is this goal possible? If so, how? If not, why not? On what moral grounds do you base your answer?

General Grading Rubric:
In general, an A paper is defined as a paper that has (i) a thesis that is plausible, (ii) a good argument or set of arguments for the thesis, and (iii) a consideration of objections to the argument with responses to the objections. The highest grade that a paper can receive for failing to have (iii) is a B, the highest grade that a paper can receive for failing to have (ii) is C, and the highest grade that a paper can receive for failing to have (i) is a D. Success on a paper comes from clear, concise, and comprehensive argumentation in defense of a well thought out thesis.
