As an HR consultant, you have been asked to perform a job analysis for a local hospital. It is a complex job, and you need some tools to help with the analysis. A job analysis is the most visible output of a job descriiption (McConnell, 2021). A job descriiption is an older term and position descriiption is a newer term (McConnell, 2021). A position descriiption prepares for a job analysis (McConnell, 2021). As a result of job analysis is an accurate and comprehensive job descriiption (McConnell, 2021). As a fundamental activity in human resource management in any employment decision is a job analysis used in selecting, training, evaluating, and compensation (McConnell, 2021). Yielding information for a position descriiption involves a job analysis for a specific position gathered from several sources (McConnell, 2021). Although not specifically listed as “tools” in our textbook reading in chapter 6, McConnell (2021) describes the position analysis to involve extensive study on the position that would yield information for the position descriiption. A job analysis according to McConnell (2021) would involve several sources such as interviews with those in the current position, examining surveys, worksheets, and or questionnaires completed by employees, and observing the job performance of the duties or tasks of the current employee. I believe observing job performance and performing interviews would be two tools useful for a consulting project job analysis. Huffman et al., (2021) used a survey of questions regarding system-level and job stressors, salary concerns, institutional support, meeting productivity goals, departmental support, training, and personal protective equipment. Rai et al., (2023) add the analysis of workloads involved in human resource planning aligns with the job descriiptions of each position and that job analysis informs human resource planning by examining the employee workloads. Zamanzadeh et al., (2020) remind us that the workforce of healthcare majority is comprised of nurses and can have a significant role in the performance of the health-related organization.

A position analyst using the surveys and observations can include interviews of the current incumbent with results given to the incumbent supervisor of the job descriiption’s accuracy, the supervisor may edit the final position to modify, delete, or add descriiption of knowledge, skills, abilities, duties or other characteristics descriiption to then be prepared, signed, and dated (McConnell, 2021).

The opportunity to observe a position incumbent and the associations of skills and knowledge can often be seen than read.
