I have to make up my own story based on the stories in the book The Lone Ranger and Tonto Fistfight from Heaven. My story has to have 6 scenes at the very least. This story and the separate scenes have to be VERY DESCRIPTIVE. This is an example of how descriptive my story has to be :——> A silhouette of Victor as a small boy is framed by the doorway of the house. The camera goes outside as Victor’s mom approaches him from the back. Outside, his father is hopping onto his motorcycle. Victor runs after him, begging him not to go. Victor holds onto his father’s waste. His father hugs him back and says:
“I have to leave now” and peels Victor’s arms away.
Victor stands in the road as his father pulls away, the dust rising around the figure as it speeds off. Victor doesn’t move. He doesn’t respond to his mother calling him. She goes back into house with her head down. Tears roll down Victor’s face as he stands in the street. When he finally turns around to go into the house, we see Thomas walking by in the background, going to his own house.( you could describe the shot).
Also, make sure you try to convey things that cannot be conveyed in words: Film is a visual medium, which means you can show emotion through physical forces and images. The sky can reflect mood. Rain can be Indian tears. Smoke can be what moves us between the past and present.
Trees can echo with spirits. Think of the sounds of the reservation, the smells, the smalls details that reflect the life of the Indians on it.
Symbols: A crushed sign that says “Help Wanted”
How can you show traditions elements? Perhaps a carving, something on the wall. How can you use reflections people see of themselves, the past, others?
These are all ideas to think about. Most of you are doing quite well. It takes time. Have a good weekend. You must get serious work done on your film project. The story has to be somewhat equivalent to a film of 40-50 minute long describing every single detail of what happens in the story and making the story imaginative to the reader. The reader should be able to picture everything as he reads. The main character that i would choose to write about is victor because Victor is the main character in the real story. i can use scenes from the story and and them to my story. i can not make up any scenes unless they are from the story. I can make up quotes like what i would say for victor as long as its a possibility that it can happen in the story. I can also use quotes from the story. i can also make short dialogues between scenes. if you have any other questions or concerns about this feel free to let me know
REMEMBER: YOU ARE DESCRIBING THE PICTURE OR “PHOTOGRAPH” IN YOUR HEAD THAT YOU SEE WHEN YOU READ A SCENE; YOU ARE NOT USING THE WORDS ON THE PAGE ( EXCEPT FOR DIRECT DIALOGUE). YOU ARE DESCRIBING WHAT IS IN YOUR HEAD
ESSENTIAL SELF-EDITING CHECKLIST:
If anything in your film DOES NOT FIT INTO ONE OF THE THREE CATEGORIES BELOW, YOU MUST TRANSFORM IT TO MAKE IT FIT OR GET RID OF IT.
1) IS THE SCENE A PICTURE- A VISUAL IMAGE, A SOUND? THE SKY, THE LAND, THE BOY IN THE BED ETC.
2) IS IT AN ACTION? VICTOR RUNS ON THE GRAVEL ROAD OFF THE PORCH TO HIS FATHER.
(CONVERTING EMOTION INTO VISUAL OR ACTION)
VICTOR CLENCHES HIS FISTS AS THE RAIN BEATS HARDER AND HARDER ON THE ROOF, HE LOOKS UP FRIGHTENED( A LOOK OF FEAR
) THAT IT MIGHT CAVE IN (STARING AT THE BOARDS ABOVE HIS HEAD).
3) DIALOGUE: A CHARACTER IS SPEAKING DIRECTLY.
THERE IS NO NARRATOR IN THE FILM…….
GO THROUGH YOUR SCENES AND MAKE THESE ADJUSTMENTS….
