Social Work Marketing
In today’s world, social work is slowly becoming like a business. Its settings are dependent upon consumers who are based in a rather competitive environment. This competitiveness is a characteristic which was once not present in the field of sociology, however in today’s life there are many organizations which offer social services to consumers.
This topic is therefore rather interesting since all these companies need to be praised for their services. As a result, competition has really grown and is stiff in this sector (Beauchemin & Kelly, 2009). This competition has therefore drifted the attention which should be focused more on the benefits of social work, to money. Social Work Marketing is basically a way of promoting the selling of ideas, attitude and behavior just as businesses sell their products through advertisements. There are various organizations which sell their products through marketing, and just as many others the sales returned are doubled, if not tripled.
Social work organizations also need to increase their sales returns so that they end up with a way of improving their services and infrastructure too (Beauchemin & Kelly, 2009). Social services can be offered in various places even in hospitals. Most people choose to seek these services in hospitals since it is already well known that they are offered there. However, they can also be offered in private settings which are not yet well known. These settings can increase the number of customers going to them by marketing their skills. As is the common case, everyone wants to go to a place where quality services are offered. In social work, it is no different.
This interest in social work marketing has been triggered from my current social work practice. A good percentage of hospitals are using the various marketing strategies available to lure customers to use the various services they have to offer. This is being used a lot in conjunction with recovery model in mental health. The social work marketing should therefore incorporate applicable strategies which will attract more clients to any private practice and enable it to prosper (Beauchemin & Kelly, 2009). It may include the use of flyers which may contain a list of all the possible benefits of visiting the practice. Another option may be the use of posters just as is the case in most hospitals. They use their posters to show that they offer services of a certain sort, and that the result is mostly satisfying. Hospitals also advertise in social media with the help of documentaries which portray an analysis of their services. Most also include the use of success stories told by the previous customers.
The technology I am most interested in learning about is Adobe media which includes video and audio. I am also interested in the Internet and advertising social media since this is the direction where social services are headed towards in practice. For a practice to become competitive, the services must also be up to date. If the competition is a hospital, the services offered by the practice need to outdo their services. Hospitals are advanced in terms of technology. They use technology in all sectors of the hospital. It helps to make work easier and more efficient since more customers are serviced at a very short time. The Social Work Practice should therefore also consider the incorporation of this in its system including when marketing (Beauchemin & Kelly, 2009). By using technology in marketing, the first step will have already been taken to success.
