Changing World Economy and College Education
Introduction
The biggest challenge facing American college students in the economic situation is education. This is because the issue of education is connected to a range of other related issues. Parental education and income are the main predictors of students’ success. However this does not mean that income and parental education are the only causes of students’ success but they play a central role. Giving good education to American college students will ensure that they play a central role in revamping the declining economy. Parental education increases the success of children and growth of the American economy. Wealthier parents can enroll their children in better schools with better facilities and resources.
Main Body
The provision of quality education is one of the main challenges that face college students once they complete their education. Students attending colleges with limited resources face the challenge of getting employment. In most cases, parents with limited education enroll their children in colleges that are cheaper believing that the children will receive quality education the parents might have missed. This is a shortsighted approach. Colleges with cheaper fees lack enough resources to support students. These colleges also have poor learning environment conditions. Offering parental education ensures that parents are prepared to support the education of their children. Parental tutoring ensures that parents accept to expose their children to better learning opportunities (Askville 1). The parent will also be well equipped to provide help when the help is need by the student.
In the book ‘That used to be us’ Thomas Friedman and Michael Mandelbaum (2011) indicate that the position of America abroad cannot be endured without the rejuvenation of domestic resources of the American strength and prosperity including education and the economy. The authors state that the future of America is dependent on improving the contemporary rocky conditions and have a clear formula in on how to improve education and consequently the economy.
Most current college students are children to baby-boomers. Most baby-boomers received limited education. 49 percent of these adults do not know the duration taken by earth to go round the sun (Preston 1). This means there is decline in the quality of education in American colleges. The adults fail to appreciate that times have changed and if the country is regain its position, their contribution is critical to improve education.
This is the point at which parental education becomes important. College students will require convincing parents to enroll them in colleges that have resources necessary to expose students to quality education much needed to revamp the economy. Currently, Beijing and Tsinghua Universities supply America with the highest number of PhDs (Preston 1). The innovations necessary to revolutionize the economy can only become a reality if college education is revamped since old routines have become irrelevant (Friedman and Mandelbaum 50).
Education will require to be based on information technology for students to compete effectively with innovators in other economies. Students will hence require playing a central role in convincing parents to take them to technology-oriented institutions. Upon graduation, the students will require to have this mentality and propagate it to their offspring while ensuring that they contribute to the economy by using the knowledge gain in quality-education colleges. Parents should ensure that they used available resource to offer their children with the best education possible.
Conclusion
There are many challenges that face American college students. Cheap colleges often have teachers with lower education and are not updated on modern effective teaching methods. This means that students will receive lower quality education. Attending colleges with better resources expose students to wide range of data necessary for developing competent individuals in respective careers.
