Writing a Critical Essay – pages 209-218 (PDF attached)
A critical essay is one in which you analyze and critically evaluate another persons argument. Write an 800 to 1,000 word critical essay on one of the selections on pages 210-218. Your essay should include the following four elements.
Introduction: Identify the title, author and context of the essay you are critically evaluating. Summarize very briefly the writers basic position and state in general terms your overall evaluation of the argument
Argument Summary: Standardize the writers argument using the five-step method presented in Chapter 7 (page 182) or summarize in paragraph form.
Critical Evaluation: Evaluate the argument; that is, say whether you think the argument is a good, convincing argument and give reasons to support your view. Review the guidelines located at the bottom of page 209.
