A reflection on Racism

A reflection on Racism

Background

After reading chapter 1 of the text Yellow or the Preface extract of Different shore by Ronald Takaki, one will concur that Asian immigrants to America do have far stretched economic and social objectives. However, their dreams are not realized optimally by the extent of racial discrepancies prevailing in America. Objectively, a reader will agree with the cogitation that Asian immigrants to America have a strong perception in building the economy and their social lives. Wu (3) argues he could imagine himself as Johnny. This view is joined by Takaki’s argument that Chinese immigrants to America signed labor contracts with a view of improving their lives on aggregate.

Rigidity

It is eminent from the two readings that Chinese did have ambitions of making a better life in American soil. However, the American color severity heavily contests the objectively optimally. Wu (4) argues that he was surprised to learn that he was not white, and instead he was yellow by birth, and therefore, he could not be Johnny no matter how he tried. Wu further argues that the real racial math was not the origin of the individual but the color. In fact, a naughty visiting French student was treated better than a diligent Asian. Takaki (4) argues that the treatment in America is stingy to accommodate unbiased labor policies. In this case, his family has been in America for more than three decades yet the negligence was still eminent every day.

Reflection

American constitution is categorical when it comes to apprehending racism. The constitution has empowered Asian immigrants’ rights to citizenship, emigration, immigration, and voting rights. However, according to the readings of the texts, many Asians continue suffering prejudices socially and economically. Nonetheless, the question is directed to the authorities on the nature of their collective actions in thwarting racism.
