1. Bridget is going to attend college classes in the fall. She will need to place her four year old son. Ronnie, in a child care program while she attends classes and studies. Ronnie has always been at home with his mother, and Bridget is afraid that he will have trouble adapting and adjusting to the child center environment?
   1. If you were the director of the center, what would you do to help Ronnie feel comfortable in the child center?

2. Roz is the director of a new child care center and is responsible for purchasing the equipment for the center. Although Roz has some ideas about how she would like to equip the center, she does not want to waste any money and wants to make appropriate purchasing decisions.
   1. How would Roz determine the type and amount of equipment needed for this center?
   2. What criteria should Roz keep in mind when she selects equipment?
   3. What basic areas and spaces need to be considered when equipping a center?

3. The wildwood center has a staff of 25 teachers and assistants. Staff meets are held weekly for administrative staff, weekly for leads and assistants, and quarterly meetings for all staff. Ther is always much to discuss. Members are asked via the center’s email system to provide feedback on agenda items prior to each meeting. Agendas are distributed that require staff input. Some staff enthusiastically respond to written request for information and talk during the meeting while others staff remain very quiet even with prompting and do not respond to written request for information. The director, Mrs. Garcia, wants to provide a balance at each meeting so that no on dominates the discussion. She doesn’t want to issue warnings to staff who do not respond to her memos for information. Mrs. Garcia is aware that staff who are quiet have concerns but does not know how to help them feel more comfortable at staff meetings.
   1.  What would you suggest to mrs. Garcia so that each staff member is able to participate at staff meetings?
   2. What would you suggest to mrs. Garcia to encourage staff response to emails, memos, and other written correspondence?
   3. What could be done before or after the meeting taking place to enhance staff communication?
4. As  a center director, you are the parents’ primary source of information on program quality. Many families are not familiar with quality programming for young children in their community. Some families need guidance in this area.
   1. How would you help parents with understanding the basics of finding quality care?
   2. What resourcs do you think would be useful to parents/family members?
5. The teachers in the preschool and toddler program at Hug A Child are upset that one family is ignoring their center and state policies on toileting. The child is 4 years and 4 months and does not have any diagnosed specials need. The teacher are concerned that the child is not toilet trained for bowel or urine. The parents are not English speaking and are new to the usa. The parents send their son to school in pull ups.
