The professions who study, get equipped, and practice psychology are known as psychologists. They are classified as cognitive scientists, behavioral and Social psychologists. They attempt to look into the mind of the human being. They in a way understand the various mental functions; they explain why the mind decides and enforces the action on the human being body. The actions of human beings are as a result of their thoughts. The thoughts are proof of the nature of the decision making process by human beings. Actions are a good basis to judge the nature of the mind an individual, as the actions depict the premeditated thoughts of an individual. A good case scenario might be the actions of a murderer to kill another individual. The action of killing is as a result of the premeditated thoughts; they are as a result of the inner insights on the actions, the mind thought deeply of the actions and somehow the human body pushed to perform the act. Humans are judged based on their actions, which are as a result of the premeditated thoughts in the mind.
Psychologists are in a better to understand the mental functions of a human being. They understand the human beings and the social behaviors arising from the human being behaviors. It also explores biological and physiological processes that underlie the behaviors and functions of human beings. Decision-making is a key measure of the human mind, hence psychologist study the human mind in order to arrive at explanations as to certain occurrences in the society. Psychology is a word derived from the Greek doctrine. A word comprises of psyche a Greek term that means soul and logia a Greek term that means study or research. It is the study of the human soul.
The brain that changes itself: Story of personal triumph from the frontiers of brain science is a book written by Norman Doidge. Neuroplasticity is the recent science that has replaced the perception that the human mind cannot mutate. The arguments in the recent scientific doctrine of Neuroplasticity aim at clearly explaining the various facts that the human brain indeed has the capabilities to mutate. It can change in strength and the power to make wise decisions and develop strong critical analytical ideas that might propel an individual to the self-actualization level of the human being (McDougall, 2006). Psychologist Norman Doidge travelled different parts of the world in an attempt to meet various scientists in the field of neuro plasticity and the various clients who have been transformed as a result of the advice and mentorship of these psychologists. The findings of Norman Doidge were that the patients, whose mental abilities were looked at as unalterable and permanent situations, were curable. It was evident that humans under supervision and the care of neuro-plasticity psychologists could slowly transform from being just an average mind to a brain with tremendous capabilities.
Human behaviors and abilities result from the thoughts in the human mind. As a result of the therapy, the human mind could transform the human actions and result in a productive human being with full of productive results. Norman Doidge identified that a woman with half a brain could be cured and her brain to operate at maximum efficiency. Through the therapy process, the blind patients were cured of their ailments, students with learning disorders were cured, and their academic performance improved tremendously, individual with low IQ’s were improved and their IQ level increased. These individuals were seen making better decisions; they were seen as developing in nature and practice and their overall human life improved to greater efficiency. The old and tired individuals with aging brains were rejuvenated, life was given unto them (McDougall, 2006). Their slow habits were increased; old thought brought light to new productive thoughts. Their old steps increased into rapid fast steps that portrayed a sharp individual. Stroke patients who had lost the ability to speak as a result of the stroke could now speak better and efficiency and pass the message without any barriers. As a result of the therapy sessions, the therapists were able to cure stroke patients. Their minds improved and empowered to be able to operate at maximum efficiency.
Children that suffered from palsy were able to move swiftly with increased grace. This is as a result of the brain being mentored and trained to operate with increased strength. Depression patients suffering from anxiety and disorders were successfully treated though the psychiatric therapy sessions that empowered them gave them strength reduced their depression, solved their anxiety problem and helped them to be better and in a sound mind state that would help them better solve their problems.
From all of the above findings, Dr. Norman Doidge was able to establish that the mind could mutate. The mind had the capability of learning new skills, and it could develop an immense strength through exercise the mind like any muscle of the human body could be very powerful. This aspect would result in human beings operating at maximum efficiency and being able to solve their problems and those of the society (McDougall, 2006). By being mentally empowered the human mind was able to achieve immense strength this was enough to tackle emotional, psychological and financial challenges. All of this was centered on achieving the greatest value of life and by doing so; the human mind could help the individual be as productive as possible.
The brain that changes itself: Story of personal triumph from the frontiers of brain science is a book written by Norman Doidge, there are several lessons that could be learnt from the story but among them:
• The brain could mutate.
• The brain has the potential to learn new things and influence productivity of the individual.
Human beings are judged as a result of their actions. Actions are the products of thoughts that arise from the human brain. The human brain could slowly transform from a less creative mind to a more powerful mind that has the capabilities of tackling all the challenges facing the human body. By solving all the predicaments of the human body, human beings are able to rise among ranks and could attain self-actualization.
According to Michael Merzenich, brain plasticity refers to the brains ability to mutate and transform and change from a simple to a more diverse and sophisticated mind. That could help an individual to become better and solve most of the human challenges facing him. According to Michael Merzenich brain plasticity involves a physical process. The changes in the physical brain generally represent the changes in the human being capability. By learning a new dancing style human beings are more empowered and hence become better dancers. Michael Merzenich also used the analysis to ascertain to brain growth and decline. According to him, the young constantly learn new skills and therefore their brain continuously grow over a period of time. The old suffer from brain decline in its capability, as they grow old and grey. The analysis is simple that the brain could learn and grow with exercise and practice to learn new skills.
The brain plasticity also decreases with age. In addition, this affects senses, memory and cognition. The old human beings are less able to regain mental sharpness. As a result, they are not able to quickly and process what it hears. This shows that the brain undergoes a process of transformation it is able to recognize senses and memory at an early age but diminishes at old age as a result of low activity (McDougall, 2006). According to Michael Merzenich’s view of non-invasive treatment, he holds the view that the next breakthrough in the medical practice would be to enable patience increase their brain potential. This will help patients solve some issues themselves and better their lives. Finally exercising the brain always could increase brain capacity and capability. Through this the brain is able to learn new skills, become better in arriving at better problem solving scenarios and help the human beings grow tremendously.
The brain that changes itself: Story of personal triumph from the frontiers of brain science is a book written by Norman Doidge, has greatly inspired me to always exercise my human brain. To continuously learn new skills and change my IQ level. By doing this my brain will be able to be powerful learn new skills and help me to better grow my human potential to solve existing and new problems that I will face in life.
