Basically explain they similarities that Kentucky had with the rest of the southern states involved in the civil war .

Guidelines: React to the following statements:

1. “Kentucky should be considered a southern state as much as Oklahoma, Alabama, Mississippi, Texas, and all the 12 “southern” states we have studied in this class.”

2. “Kentucky is NOT a southern state.”
You are obviously going to need to do some quick research on the history and politics of Kentucky. When you do so, please cite the sources.

What I am looking for here is for you to apply what you have learned about southern politics (the influence of race and the civil rights movement, the long dominance of the Democratic Party until recently, the rise of the Republican Party, etc.) analytically to other states that “might” be considered “southern” and what that means. Also, you will want to incorporate Deer Hunting with Jesus and/or The New Mind of the South into your essay when you think those writings might offer insight into answering the questions.

Considerations: (THE PAPER MUST INCLUDE ALL THE FOLLOWING POINTS)

– This paper has to do with the American civil war and the following reconstruction. They main point is demonstrate if Kentucky should really been considered a southern state although it is not included in the southern states that actively took part in the war (confederate states)
– Kentucky never went through reconstruction (like other states did), however it suffered most consequences from the civil war
– Kentucky followed a similar path than the other southern states before and during the civil war
– Basically explain they similarities that Kentucky had with the rest of the southern states involved in the civil war
– Kentucky tried to secede too like the other confederate states
– Kentucky was physically, politically and culturally torn apart during the civil war but they were not under the military government trough the reconstruction, they did not have republican governments imposed by the generals like other southern states. There was no general telling the Kentucky government what to do.

BASICALLY THE ESSAY HAS TO CONFIRM STATEMENT NUMBER 1 EXPLAINING ALL POINTS ABOVE MENTIONED AND OF COURSE INCLUDING OTHER INFO YOU FIND USEFUL WHILE AT THE SAME TIME FALSIFYING STATEMENT 2. YOU CAN USE 3 DIFFERENT SOURCES (THE 2 BOOKS IF YOU CONSIDER THEM IMPORTANT FOR THE ESSAY AND ANY OTHER EXTERNAL SOURCE). TRY TO CITE AS BRIEFLY AS POSSIBLE PLEASE, THANK YOU
