For each idea provide one example from our discussions or readings that prove or disprove that idea. (25 points)
Several of the texts we have read late in the semester use stylistic choices (word choice, narrative structure, allusions, etc.) to support representations of characters. Choose two of the following texts: The Bluest Eye, For Colored Girls or Middle Passage. Discuss at least two examples of how stylistic choices develop the representation of one character for each of your chosen texts. You should end up with two long paragraphs, each focused on one text and including two examples of stylistic choices. (25 points)
- We have had many discussions this semester about how the writers we have read critique the dominant culture’s representations of African-Americans.Choose three critiques of representation that are found in the texts. Discuss each representation and its critiques in a paragraph, using examples from three different writers for each example. I suggest using a standard five paragraph essay: intro and conclusion and one body paragraph for each representation that is critiqued. Don’t forget to use three different writers in each representation paragraph. You may use the same 3 writers for the entire essay or more than 3. (50 points)
