Bold Actions for Complex Challenges

The Honorable McDonnie Jefferson, District Educational Officer, Ladies and gentlemen; first, let me say with so much pleasure that I honor your invitation to this very important workshop. I believe this will be a remarkable step towards the affirmative actions to redeem and correct our educational system. I am humble most of all for this unprecedented opportunity to share my take on the current situation surrounding our educational system. As I was preparing for this workshop, I was asking myself, what went wrong in our society to result to the misfortunes that we are registering today.

For many painful years, we have had to put up with the issue of drugs in school, promiscuity, discipline issues and the rest. This painful ordeals have prompted my consciousness to rethink about the structures we have laid to guard our students from negative influence and exposure to this vices.

We have the potential in this community to achieve the best-accrued and collective success but we have failed in realizing this. We want to raise an educated generation but are our efforts towards achieving that dream. We as the custodians of these vulnerable students have to stage a vigilant reaction towards the challenges ahead of us. Any event taking place in this district has a direct impact on our integrity and the well-being of the students. Many countries in the world have turned into big economies today because of their learning structures and careful research on ways to improve their education systems. This success stories are making headlines in the media almost every day. Have we as a community taken the time to rethink our position in regards to our education system. Take for instance, Brazil a country that not so long ago was considered a third world country. Today Brazil is one of the fastest growing economies in the world owing to improved deliberations on their education sector.

Am glad that we have today an opportunity to reason together and find a permanent solution to these problems we are facing, off course knowing that it will be a waste of time if we resolve to wait upon the government to solve our predicaments. Although it is in the government’s prerogative to provide the public with such amenities, and we cannot afford to risk our time waiting upon the government’s intervention. You the teachers are the main stakeholders in matters of education. It is important for you to see into the future and identify areas where we are scoring poorly in effecting better performance. Studies have proven that involvement in drugs has adverse repercussions on individuals learning process (York Collage, 2011). The good news however is that we as the stakeholders have the opportunity to beast the challenges thereof.

The reason why am bringing this statistics to your attention is to demystify the unmerited belief that drugs cannot be wiped out in our schools. Our responsibilities as teachers in our capacities are to make sure that our students have access to the best achievable academic experiences. How can this be achieved in a reasonable endeavor in our current societal circumstances? This is the reason why an affirmative action must take precedence. We must launch a determined campaign against drugs and drug lords, and educate the parents on their role in their children’s education. Parental support is the backbone of our success; hence, we can achieve nothing much without their involvement. You on the other hand are the source of information in our society and a reflection of the population’s outcome.

Our district is facing undoubtedly key challenges in dealing with discipline. It is imperative to note that school going children have lost their morals and are no longer interested in the religious way of life. If we could recollect, and ask ourselves, where have we gone wrong? These are anyway challenges common to many other parts of the world and not unique to us (Quamina-Aiyejina, 2006). However, our deliberation to solve the issue is what makes the big difference on the effects accrued from the aftermath. It must therefore be emphasized to the students and their parents that that education is of great importance. It is recognized worldwide that a country’s income is positively associated with access to, and the quality of, education offered in the system of learning. We should be very careful not to underestimate what education can do to our children.

The government has put in place structure to ensure all students have the best it can offer in our learning institutions. No student of has an excuse not to achieve greatness in their education whatsoever with the current government efforts to support learning. . According to Porter (2008), a successful society is one that provides opportunity for all in every sphere of life. We should call upon the parent from time to time to evaluate the challenges faced by their sons and daughters and make the parents get involved in their children’s progress in school. The intention of the government is to see that this region is of a literate population and educated generation that are capable of driving the country’s political, social and economical agenda. This can only be possible if the coming generation is well informed and prepared to take position that will take the nation forward in terms of development (MosconeCenter, 2011). The world is experiencing a dramatic change in technological advancement and we must therefore respond to that effect in obedience to the global standards.

With these observations, we realize that even the education system has to change since what we have now is a similar syllabus created centuries ago. In the midst of all these technological innovation, we should and must respond to these changes and have a wholesome restructuring of our academic systems. What worked for us fifty years ago may not necessarily work for us now. My esteemed challenge therefore to you as the shareholders of this sector of education, is that you cooperate and work together for the good of these nation and the future generations to come. This is an achievable goal that if efforts are directed towards achieving it we shall all rejoice in the fruits of our labour. I do not intend to conclude my contribution without acknowledging your efforts so far in helping our students to maintain good morals. Your concerted efforts towards reforming undisciplined students cannot be overlooked. Your efforts in dealing with indicipline cases go above the average mark and it is my great joy to note that you are on the alert to give our students social skills.

Lastly, I wish to thank the district educational officer for his timely invitation and all of you who are here for listening to me. I treasure the opportunity to speak to you and for being in your midst. For those few remarks, ladies and gentlemen, I wish to conclude my speech with satisfactory gesture that we shall cooperate and work together until we overcome the challenges ahead of us. Thank you very much.
