BUS203 – Business Law
The assessment for BUS203 is made up of two parts. Namely:
Research Essay – Week 6

Research Essay (30 % 1500 words)
Conduct secondary research and write an essay to discuss one of the following topics:
- Briefly outline the process for setting up a business in Australia. Critically analyse the factors that an entrepreneur might consider in choosing a particular business strcuture. In your answer you should consider whether the hospitality and tourism industry has any unqiue factors that need to be taken into account.
OR
- Corporate Governance refers to the system by which corporations are directed and controlled. The governance structure specifies the distribution of rights and responsibilities among different participants in the corporation (such as board of directors, managers and etc) and specifies the rules and procedures for making decisions in corporate affairs. Furthermore it is a mechanism for monitoring the actions, policies and decisions of corporation.
Critically analyse the HIH case in Australia, where insurance company HIH failed to uphold corporate governance principles, and compare and contrast this with one example of your own choosing. In your answer you should consider how effective corporate governance principles are in achieving there objectives.
Students are required to provide secondary support and critical analysis in their discussion.
