Business Information System

Section 1

In terms of definition, tacit knowledge is that knowledge which is not easily transferable through the use of verbalizing or writing it. On the other hand, explicit knowledge can be stored in particular media, codified and even articulated. Most of the explicit knowledge is passed on in books stored in the electronic devices for easy access. This is what takes place when organizations try to pass information. On the other hand, tacit knowledge may require the actual presence of the one learning the information for it to be effective.

An example of a tacit knowledge is the learning of operating machines or devices. Through my own experiences, I have learnt that the best way to know hoe to operating something is by actually operating. People can read the manuals and books and read all the books available about a device but unless the real encounter takes place, one may never know how to operate it. Good doctors have to encounter a patient and operate one in order to acquire the exact knowledge. People acquire explicit information through reading and training.

In an organization, managers should use both forms of knowledge in order to acquire pass knowledge to the employees. Tacit knowledge can be acquired through the use of engaging in practical work while explicit knowledge can be acquired through workshops, intra and internet information and other forms of training.

Section 2

Technology may have brought with it the luxury of having all the information needed by making a few clicks on the monitor. However, people still believe in the power of a one on one conversation. This is mostly due top the tacit knowledge. Although the whole information may be available on a monitor concerning how to operate a certain device, one may still need the help of an expertise who has actually operated the said machine. In the case of Pricewaterhouse Coopers, the employees may need the direct present of an expert rather than just enquiring from some available information. In the other cases, employees would like to as specific questions. It is hard to get the exact answers online. This is why the physical appearance of an expert is sought out.

Section 3

The effective analyzing of business activities always puts a business ahead of its competitors. This is because a business can easily pick out any faults, challenges and make any updating before there is further damage. Efficiency and effectiveness needed cannot take place with the human effort alone. Information technology plays a major role in making this process more effective and efficient.

Intra and inter-networking have come in handy in the business analysis process. The use of cloud computing rather than individual processing units has made a wide range of users acquire information from one central unit. Like in the case of PricewaterhouseCoopers, the knowledge curve has enabled the relevant administration unit keep track of the daily business activities and enable the employees to acquire the relevant information efficiently and without wastage of time.

As far as IT is concerned, the systems can be made to suit both the small and the large enterprises. Although many organizations have not yet come to times with its effectiveness and it use, the few that have identified the great increase in business/ employee performances and the effectiveness of the management process.
