Control of Organized Crime
Introduction
In the United States of America, organized crimes have continually increased in the rate of growth. This has posed a threat to the stability of peace in the government. The problem of organized crime has also become a global problem affecting the different nations affiliated to the United States. In the recent past, organized crimes have started to present a great threat to the economy, political peace and stability of the country and the security of the country in general. This has proven to be very difficult for the government to combat the organized due to the limited resources and the poor laws that have been created by the government. Therefore, the problems that are presented by these organized crimes need to be evaluated together with the different problems in resources and poor laws to combat these groups, so that some possible solutions could be derived.
Different problems presented by organized crime
One of the great problems that they present in the country is economic instability. The organized crimes usually engage themselves with criminal activities, which are not listed, in the government. The main criminal activities are drug trafficking, human trafficking, corruption and kidnapping. Drug trafficking is one of the main activities in which this different organized crimes deal with. In this business, a lot of money is involved. Billions of money is usually transacted every year by the different groups. However, since these businesses are not listed due to them being illegal, they are not included in the annual budget. This might lead to wrong figures and yet there is inflation. Additionally, these crimes might form alliances and cripple other business through violence (Beare & Naylor, 2002). It is because of this that the organized groups have posed a great threat to the economy of the country.
Another problem that is presented by the organized groups is a threat to the political peace and stability of the country. These groups are formed on basis of ethnicity, where people from the sane tribe or culture come together and of the group in the aim of criminal activities. Additionally, these groups have recently started forming alliances in the aim of fighting the government. This has made gaining political power as one of their main interests in the different illegal activities that they have been conducting. In the process, they have resulted in very violent measures in order to take control of the government leading to political instability. Moreover, this groups have been dealing with illegal fire arms, which if the groups are lead to grow will lead to them wanting to overthrow the government (United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, 2009). Therefore, the organized crimes are presenting a problem to the political peace and stability of the country.
Lastly, these groups are posing a great danger to the security of the country. These groups often use violence to impose their rules to the different citizens. The kind of violence they use ranges from rape, vandalizing, stealing to kidnapping leading to human trafficking. Due to the growth in numbers of these different groups, the crimes have also been increasing. This means that the level of insecurity has also been rising. Therefore, the groups have presented the problem of insecurity, which if not adequately adhered to; it might bring down even the economy of the country.
The various relationships established by organized crime
Due to the nature of business conducted by these different groups, they have started developing relationships with other groups. Their main aim is to make profit and in order to make profit in the current world, business are becoming global. It is because of this that the different groups have developed relationships with different rebel groups from different countries. The rebel groups have become good buyers of the illegal arms. When such a relationship is formed, it has become easier for the different rebel groups to oppose the government. Additionally, the organized crime groups are gaining more profits to cause chaos in the country.
The legal limitations associated with combating organized crime
Despite all the efforts the government is trying to make, some legal limitations are making the move to combat the organized crime difficult. One of the legal limitations is the violation of privacy. Despite the fact that most of these organized crime groups are known, without concrete evidence, the relevant authorities are not able to investigate them or catch them since they will be violating their privacy. Because of this, the groups have continued to change in the way of conducting their businesses making it difficult to combat them. Additionally, they are able to transact their business since the relevant authorities cannot evade there privacy (David, 2009).
A critique of the major federal laws and strategies that aid in combating organized crime
In the relevant government agencies that are trying to combat with the different groups, they usually have certain laws that aid in catching the groups. In the different agencies like the Federal Bureau of Investigation, they do not share information with other organizations like the Central Intelligence Agency, because they find themselves to be superior to the others. In the process of fighting each other due to the poor laws they have created, the organized crimes continue to grow. On the other hand, this law has proven to be effective especially in cases where some members may be bought by some of these groups thus leaking the information to them. Therefore, the relevant authorities should implement their strategies so that they can work together in fighting crime.
Conclusion
In conclusion, in order to solve the different problems that are associated with the organized crimes, several possible solutions might be able to be followed. In the past, public prosecution of the different offenders of organized crime has proven to be effective but not that effective. Therefore, the government should create rules where by if somebody is suspected to be involved in these crimes, the relevant authorities have the right to invade the privacy of the suspect. This would lead to the reduction of the criminal activities and the prosecution of the different offenders. Additionally, they should impose stiffer punishments to the offenders and cut their communication while in custody. This will create fear to both emerging groups and the already existing thus reducing the rate of crimes caused by these groups.
