1 The finance function

2 Managing working capital

• Give an overview of the factors that have to be taken into account when managing working capital in a Sports Organisation. (700words)

• Then produce a cash flow budget based on the following information with a short report. (100 words plus cash flow forecast)

Winfield Village Rugby Club are approaching the end of the season and the you as the Treasurer have decided to produce a cash flow forecast from March to August to discuss with the Committee.
Each month from March to May you forecast gate receipts and programme sales as £2000, Catering income £100, Advertising income £400 and merchandising income £50.
Each month from March to August you forecast staff cost including player wages as £900 and other operating costs at £1000.
Your sponsor, the landlord of the only pub in the village has promised to pay £3000 to support the club during the new season. He said he would hope to pay this in August but no later than September.
The Clubs closing bank balance at the end of February was £1000 and the club has no overdraft facility with its bank.

• Prepare a budget for a Sports Event you are going to organise, then identify and explain the main headings in this budget. (200 words plus budget)

• Explain how you will use the budget as a monitoring or control tool, and identify the areas where the greatest degree of risk or uncertainty exists. (400 words)

• Give an example to demonstrate how you will use variance analysis as a cost control mechanism. (200 words)

• Explain one finance function in detail using examples from Sport. (55%)

• Demonstrate use of the literature, this should include books, journal articles, relevant websites, company information etc. Correct use of the Harvard method for referencing and reference list. Student Handbook guidelines followed. (10%)

• Show correct use of English (grammar, spelling, punctuation). Structure and flow. Quality of presentation and layout. (10%)
