Titles for assignments/essays are provided below, and should remain the same through the annotated bibliography, the essay proposal, and the final essay. Unless you are prepared to discuss and formulate titles and theses for assignments and essays with me, please choose from these titles. If you choose to supplement an essay title with your own, please ensure that you have my permission to do so: assignments and essays without approved titles will not be marked and will be returned to you.Assignments and essay titles typically cover specific areas and are designed so that students learn or strengthen particular skills, and may well cover topics relevant to the exam that have not been covered in entirety during lectures. In this assignment, you are expected to provide an annotated bibliography of no more than twoarticles from JSTOR (or EBSCOhost, etc.), and at least threebooks. You must also use the two required textbooks for the assignment. This should giveyou fiveseparate secondary (modern) references. You must also provide five primary ancient sources. These sources can be found in the required set textbook (by P. J. Rhodes), on the class powerpoints, on Lacus Curtius (http://penelope.uchicago.edu/Thayer/E/Roman/home.html), the library of ancient texts online (https://sites.google.com/site/ancienttexts/)and on Perseus (http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/). Please be advised that only the ancient evidence on these websites are to be used; if you reference other secondary or modern texts from these websites (e.g. William Smith’s Dictionary of Greek and Roman Antiquities), you will lose marks. Failure to adhere to the instructions here and on the annotated bibliography form itself will result in a loss of marks. If you experience difficulties with the form (or you do not have Microsoft Word, or cannot fill the sections in), please print the form out, and on a separate document complete the assignment while ensuring that the numbers for the sections correspond. Contact me if you have any problems. Please ensure that you refer to “Bibliography and Citation” pdf as well as the “GradingRubric” pdf in the “Annotated Bibliography” folder on Nexus; in these documents you will find out what is expected from you and your work.1).Discuss the different sources (particularly literary and epigraphic) for the various aspects of ancient Greek society: what do they tell us?What are their limitations? How can they be used to highlight these aspects? How informative are they?2).Consider the role, impact, and influence that sport had on Greek Society.3).Examine the roleof women in Greek society.4).What were the differences between the Athenian and Spartan education system?5).Do the elements of Greek society portrayed in Greek theatrereflect a true depiction of the Greek world?6).What can Greek art ORarchitecture tell us about Greek society?7).Discuss the role that religion played in Greek society.8).Using examples, illustrate the causes and effects of warfare in the Greek world. How did these causes affect Greek society as a whole?9).How and why did the Greek states conduct interstate relations? What were the outcomes of these relationships?10).Was the notion of demokratiain Athens ‘democracy’ as we understand it?11).Examine and discuss ‘slavery’ in Athenian and Spartan society.12).How advanced was trade and the economy in the ancient Greek world? Were these aspects stagnant or were they constantly in flux?
