Quick Write Four
Thanks  You really raise some important points here about private-public mix. I like the subheadings as well. Don’t forget to join the sentences to form a paragraph. Please do try to incorporate multi sourcing into your writing. It is really easy to do once you get used to it.
For a good example of multi sourcing, you could check in the Biehl and Petryna text, pp 336  bottom of second paragraph starting with (Comaroff and Comaroff 2006:26…) and 342 in the top of the third paragraph where it starts with (Cutler and McClennen 2001…) As you can see in both of these examples, they multisource their  claims. You will find lots of other examples in the readings.  In your write-up here, should you decide to develop it for the take home test for example, you could easily layer your write-up with additional sources from many of our class readings.  You can also multisource by comparing contrasting claims by using c.f. [c.f.  means compare with]. In your synopsis for example, when you wrote “In India, the pharmaceuticals are in the forefront of the health industry.” you could have cited Basu. This is not an example of multisorucing perse, but an example of drawing on previous readings. An example of multisourcing in your text could be “The private and public sector jointly conductmarket research to find out the level of dominance in health service provision.” Here, you could have layered the claim with several past readings from the course.

Multisourcing of claims shows analytic synthesis and it will be imperative for an optimal grade on the test and major assignment (the statement in particular).

Quick Write Four: Explore the dominance of public-private mixes (publicprivate
partnerships) concept in healthcare in two of the largest economies of the
world: USA and India. What roles do insurance and pharmaceutical companies
play in these contexts in regard to public-private paradigm?
Public-private interaction has dominated the Indian healthy market. The public and private sectors have partnered in various ways to better the health services especially in combating TB in India which has the highest number of TB patients worldwide.
The Global TB Alliance is an independent organization that tracks how the anti-TB drugs are distributed all over the country; this organization also collects health information from the various research firms, for example, IMS Health Inc.
The Indian public sector is the highest consumer of drugs than any other country, as well as the private sector. Other countries, such as China, not offer private TB treatment and therefore they don’t have a market of B drugs (Peters D H, 2013). However, here have been claims that private TB treatments in India were substandard, that means they were not meeting the criteria set by WHO.
The public and private sectors have partnered to undertake medical research and manufacture of anti TB drugs. Such collaborations are stated in the Lupin annual report.
The private and public sector jointly conduct market research to find out the level of dominance in health service provision. In the report it was evident that Lupin had a good market share in the manufacture of anti-TB drugs with most customers trusting that it produced quality and standard drugs. From the conducted research, it was discovered that also the local medical doctors were able to treat TB, though they were in-experienced. They preferred to charge cheap prices rather than expensive quality services. (Newacheck & Pearl 2012)
Role of pharmaceuticals
In India, the pharmaceuticals are in the forefront of the health industry. They are the researchers against major killer diseases, such as TB. The Lupin Ltd. Pharmaceutical companies have significant role played in making, regulating and prescribing of drugs in the country.(Kamat & Nichter,2014)
Public-private partnership in the U.S
The health system in the US is very different from the others already established economies. The major challenge that the system is facing is that majority of people do not have an insurance cover and others have minimal insurance. Obama’s administration proposed some remedies to the problem that could see the private and public sector collaborate in offering health services. The public sector is well known for offering quality health services whereas the private sector is praised for offering a wide range of insurance products. (Peters, 2013)
There are arrangements to come up with a public insurance plan that is of average standard and is able to compete with the services offered by the private sector. The current public healthcare gets a direct support from the government. The government directly pays providers who give health care services to the citizens. There are also plans to change the Medicare program so that it can offer the citizens a choice on their preferred cover. There is also a single payer proposed system in which the government would directly pay medical bills to doctors and hospitals (Barnes et al 2014). This is the system that the Obama administration highly supports ever since he was a senator. However, this system is faced with a regulation challenge which includes weak competition.

Role of insurance
Insurance is one of the least explored industries in the US economy that has been run unregulated for an extended period (Newacheck et al, 2012). Corrupt state departments are controlling it. However, insurers perform a vital role by advocating transparency in various medical centers including physicians. In 2008, insurers agreed and signaled their willingness to accept individual applicants. The insurers association in the United States helps draft bills that regulate the insurance industry.
