Explore the historical emergence of sex and intimacy in English and/or American culture (after the manner of Stephan Kern’s “The Culture of Love”. Please use citations throughout the essay with the last name of the author and page numbers after the quote or summary from that book). Resources should include E.L James’ “50 Shades of Grey” and at least of one of D.H Lawrence’s books – possibly “Lady Chatterly’s Lover”, as well as three others of your choosing as long as they discuss either of these figures, are closely related or facilitate the transition of the essay from 19th century erotic literature to contemporary erotic literature and the general acceptance and cultural attitudes towards this subject through the years.
