Adults’ Gender Roles, Parenting and Socialization

In Juno’s family, the parents have a significant role as clearly depicted by the economic support they give to the household. With Juno being the narrator, she introduces them by their occupations therefore according preeminence to their biggest contribution within the family. During the initial scenes, emotional welfare within the family is neglected as Juno bears a grudge against her father for remarrying Bren to fill the void left by her birth mother. Therefore, Juno acquires her emotional needs from other third parties like Leah, Bleeker and Mark. However, after the family reconciles due to the pregnancy, Juno is able to acquire emotional support form the parents. Child-care roles within the family are largely undertaken by Bren as evidenced by her cooking and sewing scenes within the film.

Parenting within the film is well covered as noted by the relationship of the parents and the young Liberty although Mark expresses his dissatisfaction upon realizing Juno’s pregnancy. Mac views the pregnancy as a reflection of his bad parenting or the effect of lacking a mother that Juno can confide in, following the divorce. The family can be ranked as middle class with both parents earning and the fact that they consider the Lorings an affluent family residing in the suburbs where the wealthy class inhabits. Within the Mac household, only the parents are considered active within the workforce. None of the parents loses employment and therefore unemployment impacts are not present in the family. Education is highly valued within the household as both children attend school regularly. The fact that the children are not in any form of employment, whether permanent or short-term, reflects high significance on learning practices. Juno has to continue with her studies even in her expectant state. Initially, Juno prefers an abortion as the best procedure for handling the situation but upon encountering the abortion center and her classmate Su-Chin, she decides to use a different tactic.

The decision is successful; the infant acquires adoption from Vanessa and Juno continues with her schooling. Stress handling is achieved through dialogue as noted by conversations between Juno and Leah about the strategy, Mac and Bren due to the parenting issue, and Jun and Bleeker concerning the child’s outcome. The response is helpful as one is able to have a second form of analysis towards achieving the best decision. The given experience is analogous to other average families in terms of adolescent pregnancies and decision clashes that may be encountered in the process due to conflicting wants between the affected teenager, the parents, the male accountable for the pregnancy, and friends.
