Holocaust Project
Good afternoon, everyone. I trust you are well. I am honoured to present my speech to you about changing our immigration laws to admit refugees fleeing Germany into the United States. In this era, we have experienced horror as many women, men, and children flee from Germany into the United States. Various factors have increased the flow of immigration of many Jews from Germany. It is undeniable fact that, the Jewish community have been facing physical violence and legal repression, which in turn have affected their well-being. Gradually, the Nazis have mistreated the Jewish community pushing many to migrate to other countries.
In 1930, the case was so severe that most refugees migrated from Germany to our country. For the past ten years, Germany has experienced dictatorship and all methods of terror, making many people to flee to our country. A large number of Jewish passengers have applied for US visa, but most of them have not succeeded because of our strict immigration laws. As a country, we have forgotten the fact that the German government has assaulted human dignity. It endangers our fellow human beings who would bring value to our country if given a chance to migrate. I believe we have what it takes to confront this menace. I desire to see the American Immigration laws changed to admit refugees fleeing from Germany to the United States.
After a careful deliberation, I have noted a decline in the number of refugees fleeing from Germany to our country. For the past years, our country has had strict enforcement of immigration and increased reluctance of British Commonwealth and European countries to accept Jewish refugees. Despite issues faced by refugees in Germany, our country has not fully embraced the need to change the immigration laws. Recently, most Jewish passengers who had applied for US visa had to stay in Cuba until they could get a chance to enter into the United States. Despite of the terror that the refugees in Germany are going through in their countries, most were forced to return to Europe. The immigration policies have changed tremendously in that most Latin America nations were open to migrate to the United States. However, the situation changed between 1933 to date, where there have been official resistance to acceptance of Jewish communities and other refugees. I understand that the refusal to admit refugees fleeing Germany to our country stemmed from many factors. Fear of insecurity and fear of economic depression are some of the major reasons. These reasons are the cause of implementing tight immigration laws in America, which increases security and economic development. Despite our need to increase security, we need to understand our obligations to protect refugees fleeing Germany into the United States as quoted by Stone (2010) in his research on holocaust.
After a careful investigation, I have established that the United States should change the immigration laws and allow refugees to settle into our land. I am confident that our country can accommodate the refugees and protect them from danger. Indeed, I am convinced that our security and human dignity interests create the need to change our immigration laws and allows refugees fleeing from German to settle in the United States. I personally believe that, our power stems not only in our military might, but also in our illustration as the government for all the people, by the people, and of the people. This is why I have established the need for the country to change immigration laws to protect human dignity.
For the past days, members of congress have aired their views about changing immigration laws. There are those who believe that the country should put strict measures to protect refugees to migrate into the United States. However, the majority believe that the country should change immigration laws to allow refugees fleeing from Germany to settle in the United States. We must understand that most refugees fleeing from Germany are leaders in music, science, literature, intellectual, and financial life. Despite having the mentioned skills, they have been subject to mistreatment and discrimination. Many have worked hard to be part of the German community, but that has not been the case. The German government has not embraced equality for all and this explains why many people are fleeing to our country to search for peace, unity, freedom, and development.
I believe that the country is stronger to take this course into action. The issue of loosing innocent lives in Germany has become a big as issue, and this establishes our need to welcome refugees and protect their human dignity. We cannot live in a world where the German government is treating human beings like animals while watching with our own eyes. We need to act and portray a perfect example to the German government that they should treat all people equally regardless of their differences in culture, education, or social status. I do not expect every person to agree on this discussion, but I would like the American government to consider what refugees in Germany are facing.
I am ready to work hard and act to deter this fury. I am asking my fellow congress members to support this motion and we unite to make the world a better place for all.
Thank you very much.
