Customer’s perception about a company significantly influences the company’s profitability. Managers should, therefore, strive to maintain a healthy perception of the company to the customers. They can do this by considering the customers criticisms. When women were asked about their perception of Hooters, they said it degraded women since the girls working there did not dress decently. A man said he would never take his family there. This disturbed Coby, and he decided to run a campaign to change Hooters perception to people. People feel that it is ethical for the workers to dress decently. Coby should, therefore, operate within the people’s ethical point of view in order to gain more customers. One can also see work values that Coby applies to improve his business. He also shows concern for his workers by intending to improve the working conditions and concern for his employees by finding out their perception about the company. The employees and customers provide honest information and opinion to the manager concerning the company.
The Undercover Boss manipulates the workers emotionally. One can also see it as a way of CEOs humiliating themselves at that point when the company may be failing. In addition, it may be at that time when people become suspicious of the powerful people. Coby communicates with customers to know their views about his company, and so that he gets to know what to do in order to satisfy customer’s needs.
The women-to-men ratio in an organization should be fair. Coby certifies that the organization is empowering to women since most of the overall employees are women. In the corporate staff and management, women comprise thirty-seven percent. He certifies this in his interview. Efficient communication should exist to prevent misunderstandings between management and employees, and to prevent unnecessary losses. Coby communicates to the employees under his disguise, and through this, he discovers what working conditions to improve so that the employees are motivated to work. This in the end leads to the success of his company and to increased profits.
There should be respect between employees and workers in an organization. The top-level management should respect the lower level management and employees should be respected to ensure efficient management. The store manager, Jimbo seems to lack respect. He does not respect the girls. He approaches them in an uncomfortable leering way. He also holds a contest that will determine which girl should leave work early, by making the girls eat a plate of beans without using their hands. Despite all this Jimbo is not fired but only warned. However, Mercee who is another store manager appears to be strict but respectful. Coby notices this when he acts as her assistant manager.
