Essay – Literary Analysis – Richard Wright’s Uncle Tom’s ChildrenChoose a theme from one of the two Richard Wright stories discussed in class to explore and compare/contrast with themes from other literature of the time, including Zora Neal Hurston’s Their Eyes Were Watching God or selected poems from Nikki Giovanni’s The 100 Best African American Poems. Research the history and evolution of this theme as it relates to Wright as an author or to his characters. Examine how such themes apply today. Include no less than two literary texts to compare and analyze, addressing not only content but stylistic choices that emphasize or relate to your general theme. This can include elements such as voice, tone, plot, symbolism, repetition, personification etc. Discuss how these elements enrich the writing and story or poem for each text.All essays must include three outside sources including, but not limited to, academic journals, literary criticism and/or autobiographies/biographies. Essays will follow MLA guidelines and include a works cited page.
