Movie 300

Movie 300

300 is an America movie produced in 2007. The movie is a fiction retelling how the battle of Thermopylae happened. In the film, the war is between the Persians and the Spartans who fight for superiority. During the war, many Spartan soldiers succumbed to death, as most scenes in the movie are marred with war and brutality.

Many people/ artists are involved in the production of the movie. Some of the people behind the movie include Nunnari Gianni and Canton Mark as producers, director was Snyder Zack who was hired in 2004. Other artists who contributed to the finalization of the movie included Gordon Michael who assisted in writing the script. Johnstad Kurt was appointed/directed by Zack to rewrite the scrip of Gordon for production. Other important personality in the production of the movie 300 was Frank Miller who served as an executive producer as well as a consultant (Doug, 2008, p. 1).

In the overall design process of producing the movie, Zack acting as the director carried out a number of roles. He oversaw all creative processes that were to be captured in the movie. To achieve this, he had to liaise with the film producer. He also ensured that the film achieves its intended standards by making his visions into realties. He also ensured that the tone of the movie is appropriate to capture the interests of the audience. Furthermore, as a director, Zack ensured that competent crew and cast employees are hired to ensure that the movie comes out as intended. Therefore, in general, as a director, Zack ensured that every thing was in order.

Production designers also assisted in the production of the film. These designers ensured that the film has appealing visual concepts. They worked hand in hand with the directors and producers. Furthermore, they came out with designed styles that varied according to location. They also employed different props, graphics, camera angles, and lightening in their filming. Furthermore, they designed appropriate customs that rhymed with the theme of the film to ensure that the movie portrays its intentions to the audience.

Art director’s role was to supervise or consolidate different pieces of work that the art people did to ensure that it achieves the vision. Therefore, art directors in the movie served a duty of harmonizing pieces of information and scenes to make it a complete production. They were also charged with the responsibility of creating visuals, illustrations and readings.

Different lighting is used in different scenes. However, the blue scene dominates most of the scenes. The lightning is somehow odd and deters clear understanding of emotions of some of the characters. The scenes that the color or lightening used in the movie evoke moods of hopelessness, courage and pessimism. The lightening, in general affects the story in the movie. One of the impacts of lighting in the story is that it is not well used to match various scenarios.

The film was set in US in 2007 but it is a recap of the events/battle that happened in the Thermopylae battle between Spartan and Persians. The culture in which the film is based is characterized with kingships and royal families. Leadership is based on succession. Society is also united and beliefs in supernatural powers. For instance, Leonidas is a king of Sparta having inherited the kingdom from his father. To illustrate beliefs in supernatural, maidens such as Ephors are consulted by king- Leonidas for blessing before going to war (Doug, 2008, p. 1).

Costuming is important in any film or movie as it helps to communicate or send out impressions about the characters. For instance, costuming is able to inform us about the age, character, religious believes, cultural backgrounds and their ideologies. In the film 300 costuming has be effectively used to help audiences understand the plot of the movie easily. The customs that the characters uses conforms to the plot; war and fight for supremacy.

Hairstyle and make up that a character puts on helps in facilitating story telling and understanding of the themes and hidden meanings of the story. Hairstyles and make ups  reveals many things about the characters. They reveal the personality, culture, and way of socialization and personality of an individual. A person who puts on dread logs may be associated with Rastafarians and therefore, the audience may assume that such a person abides by the ideologies of the Rastafarians. Therefore, such character will be able to act in such scenarios better.

In my own opinion, the scenes used in the film have tried to create a unifying scene but desirable expectations have not been achieved. On this, parts, the directors, actually tried their best. Therefore, some scenes are discordant as the lightening and coloring used does not match those scenes. The filmmaker vision of the scenes on the design elements used is congruent. The filmmaker may have decided to use the scenes and design elements for their own reasons and feeling that they could help in advancing the plot of the film and attracting the attention of the audience.

In conclusion, in the production of the movie 300, much input was done from the directors, production designers and the artist’s directors. A movie has different intentions and therefore, the producer of the move did their best in ensuring that they achieve their visions. In the movie 300, the customer choice was appropriate as it conformed to the theme. However, the lightening helped in communicating the story in the film but not satisfactorily. However, the film is a plausible in the way different themes are brought out.
