The submission of writings from prior courses, classes, schools, colleges, or universities to fulfill assignment requirements in this class will be referred as a potential Academic Code Violation.
It is strongly suggested you follow the following logical flow in presenting your reaction paper: critical overview of the entire reading, significant facts or information disclosed, and a conclusion based upon inductive or deductive reasoning flowing from the assigned reading. A Reaction Paper is designed to develop and sharpen your critical thinking, cognitive skills, and problem-solving abilities, as well as your writing skills. Your objective in writing this assignment is to clearly articulate your assessment of the information presented by the author(s) and to formulate and clarify your position on or reaction to the writings.
Avoid I will . . . and My paper will . . . and “This paper will . . .” constructions in your writings. In other words, the use of I and My and “We” in your written work must be avoided.
Below is a sample writing of an APA Abstract w/ keywords (Keywords capture the central or major focal points of the reading) for papers. Abstract
In 2007, Joseph Schafer and other contributing researchers conducted an in-depth investigation of policing in the future in the book entitled Policing 2020: Exploring the Future of Crime, Communities, and Policing. Within the text authors Sean Varano, Jeffrey Cancino, James Glass, & Roger Enriquez addressed information management in Chapter 9, Police Information Management. Collectively, the authors discussed the topics of data collection, data storage, data sharing and analytics. This paper critically analyzes Chapter 9 and validates the reading through additional cited sources identified in the paper while also presenting additional conclusive research indicating many police agencies are making progress towards achieving the recommendations provided by Varano and his co-authors.

Short Quotes
If you are directly quoting from a work, you will need to include the author, year of publication, and the page number for the reference (preceded by “p.”). Introduce the quotation with a signal phrase that includes the author’s last name followed by the date of publication in parentheses.
According to Davis (2008), “Students frequently have challenges using the APA style and format, especially when it was their first use” (p. 201).
Davis (2008) found “Students frequently have challenges using the APA style and format” (p. 201); what implications does this have for professors?
If the author is not named in a signal phrase, place the author’s last name, the year of publication, and the page number in parentheses after the quotation.
He stated, “Students frequently have challenges using the APA style and format” (Davis, 2008, p. 201), but he did not provide specific reasoning.
