Racism
In essence, racism is a core problem affecting most communities. It is a problem I have personally experienced and disliked. For the past years, I have comprehended that many people do not fully understand that racism is a core problem that augments conflicts and creates misunderstanding. I strongly dislike racism and my interest on how to deter the problem has grown tremendously.
Cognitive Psychology
It is undeniable fact that, cognitive psychology is a vital field where human beings learn how to interact with one another. For the past decades, Padash, Sedigheh & Botlani (2012) document that; the field has gain recognition in providing insights on how human beings can interact with another regardless of differences that emerge in culture, race, education background, or social status. Intrinsically, I believe that this field provides psychological insights on how people learn, remember, think, and perceive things. The core focus of this field is to learn how people store, process, and acquire information.
Typically, cognitive psychology provides psychological insights into my dislike of racism. At a tender age, I remember experiencing racism and this influenced my decision to dislike racism. I remember an experience where I was denied the privilege to play with this little girl by her parents because I was from a different race, which was very hurtful. Because of this, I believed that those who divide people along their racial lines are not good and should be killed or removed out of society. Arguing from Howard (2012) point of view, my upbringing experiences caused me to dislike racism. The painful experiences I went through influenced my decision making to hate racism.
Biological bases of behaviour
I must admit that, biological bases of behaviour such as sensation and perception have contributed to my dislike on racism. Having grown up from a racist environment, I became uneasy, anxious on what was going on in the community, and this affected my consciousness part. Often, my body reacts severely when I experience racism. For instance, I cry or shake any time I encounter racism. I have a personality that accommodates people from diverse backgrounds. My biological base of sensation has greatly contributed to my dislike on racism.
A biological base of perception has laid a strong ground to hate the idea that human beings are not equal. I can recall that, part of my community did not belong to my race. This created discrimination and often I was treated as an outcast. Most of the times, children from the majority race refused to play with me and my siblings. This perception has increased the need to fight racism and promote equality and justice in all communities.
Analysis of my reactions
Having grown up in a bigoted environment, I have encountered many difficulties playing competitive sports especially with people from different communities. Every time I engage into competitive sports I fear that I might be harassed. Playing competitive sports affects my state of consciousness during that engagement. Usually, I do sense an enemy around me and this makes me be cautious of what I speak. In such cases, I feel like I can easily engage in a physical confrontation. I have developed immense interest of promoting a society that understands that human beings are equal regardless of their differences.
The role of learning
Learning has increased my intellectual growth and helped me to understand that every individual is unique on his or her own way. I have had a chance to interact with people from diverse communities and this has increased my desire to learn from other communities. Learning has increased my dislike of racism and laid a strong ground to understand that all people are equal, thus should be treated in integrity. It has also been a powerful medium to influence those around me on how to promote justice in their backgrounds.
