Qatar Airways

Qatar Airways is one of the top airline companies in the world. At the time, the airline is about eighteen years since its inception. The airline company was established on 20th January in the year 1993. During this time, it did not have many assets; it started with a Boeing 767-200ER, which it had managed to lease from Kuwait airways. The airline’s founders were the royal family of Qatar who started it as a minor business venture. Over the years, the company has undergone restructuring and major changes in ownership (Kent, 2005).

In the year 1997, the airline was relaunched and a new management team set in place and the majority stakes changing from the royal family to other investors. At this time, the major shareholder had changed from the royal family of Qatar who had previously had a 100 percent stake in the company to the government of Qatar who owned a 50 percent stake in the airline. The rest of the stake is now divided between the royal family and other private investors who are mostly of Qatar origin. Over the years, the management as undertaken major projects and company restructuring making the company to grow from a small local airline to an internationally acclaimed airline company. Over the years, they have opened up new flight destinations as part of their expansion program (John, 2009).

The company’s vision is to “invest in, and maintain, a growing fleet of young and modern aircraft flying to key business and leisure destinations world” (James, 2009). In view of this, the company has undertaken major ventures in line with this vision. With this in mind, the company has been able to place orders and acquire new-generation Boeing 777s, Boeing 787s. Others in line include Airbus A320/321s, Airbus A350s, and Airbus A380s. This will end up in increasing its current capacity to almost twice to what it was some months back. Inline with the current concerns about global warming and environmental conservation, the airline will acquire airbus A380, which is designed to be more eco friendly by having a very fuel-efficient engine capacity that is comparable to a standard family car in terms of fuel efficiency per person (Francis, 2008). This means that fewer pollutants are emitted into the atmosphere and it cuts back on the average fuel consumption. The fleet is designed to reduce the noise levels experienced in the neighborhoods close to the landing strips. It is also bound to improve the quality of air (Bildad, 2008).

The airline is diversifying its destination routes by ensuring that it covers most of the tourist destination areas for those on holiday, key towns and cities for those on corporate travel et al. with this, the company is constantly launching new destination sites. Figures show that in the last two years, the company has launched over 20 new destination sites around the whole world. The new destination sites vary from Ankara, Aleppo, Bangalore, Buenos Aires, Copenhagen, Hanoi, Nice, Phuket, São Paulo, Shiraz, Stuttgart, Barcelona, Brussels, Bucharest, Budapest, and Tokyo (John, 2009).

The company’ entire crew shares a company mission in being excellent in everything they do. To ensure this, the company has a strict recruitment program whereby only the best are employed. The procedure is always free and fair, and has never been flawed. The company has adopted a culture whereby all the stakeholders are the pride of Qatar airways. The management has ensured a dynamic working environment that cultivates a positive atmosphere among the various members of staff. The company realizes that building a healthy working environment is paramount in having the staff deliver efficient services to the company and its customers (Anthony, 2008).

The management has cultivated a working environment where the members of staff are cooperative, solution driven, creative, and highly valued. This is all in the effort of ensuring that their service delivery is perfect and efficient. They have a conflict resolution program that looks in to the different conflicts with in the members of staff and resolves them am amicably. This is with the knowledge that conflicts arte inherent in every working environment and should be resolved amicable and effectively (Henry, 2004).

The airline’s Goal is to be a world’s top airlines company. To meet this goal, the airline has invested in a number of ventures. The company boasts of a having one of the most exclusive privilege clubs. The company says that the privilege clubs are meant to be a token of appreciation to its consistent and most loyal customers whom the company values very much (James, 2009). Those who get to experience the privileged club are treated to the most exclusive privileges designed to have ones flight with the company to be a memorable experience and not just any other flight. The flight is designed to be smooth and comfortable to have the customers relaxed after the usual long flights (Kemp, n.d.).

The experience is not restricted to only the flight time but is comprised from the moment the customer books the flight until he or she reaches the final destination. To add on the benefits of being on the privilege club, the members are awarded Qmiles, on every time they fly with the airlines, which can be later redeemed with the same airline or their partners. The Qmiles are not only restricted to the flights but can also be earned by using any of the company’s hotel, car rental, financial and travel partners (John, 2009).

Qatar airways regard the safety of all its stakeholders with utmost priority. The airline conforms to most of the standard safety regulations including the IATA. Safety checks are conducted on strategic places within and around the flight routes. This is not restricted to frisking of suspected individuals. Due to the rise in terrorist threats concerning airlines, the company has not been left behind in upgrading its safety standards to meet the current threat in safety. With this in mind, the passengers are restricted from carrying any dangerous material when using the airline. This is also in line with the international Dangerous Goods Regulations.
