Review: Faith, Form, and Time

Review: Faith, Form, and Time

The debate concerning earth’s origin continues to elicit strong debates among the religious people who support creationism, and those who support evolution without a creation background. Kurt Wise has incorporated religion and science to defend his position that the earth is not as old as evolutionists would lead people to believe. He is a Christian, who has incorporated scientific knowledge when writing this book. I was therefore confident that the information contained in the book was credible. The author has used simple language and this makes his work easy to understand and enjoyable to read.

The author has a strong Christian background, and he begins by showing the reality and the evidence of the bible. The work therefore leans more towards Christianity. Wise is of the opinion that creation was about six thousand years long. This eliminates and puts to doubt scientific theories that seem to suggest that there are animals, birds, fish, and physical places that have existed for millions of years. Wise points out that people were created from God’s image. Different theories of evolution suggest that people have evolved from different animal species. Wise has used evidence to show that the current dating system used to determine the age of things that are several thousand years old is not accurate, and it can therefore not be trusted. God was orderly when He created the world. He did not create the fish before the sea, and He did not create people until He had created all that they needed to survive.

Wise has not used strong language to oppose what other scientists and authors might have written in the course of time. He has instead chosen to comfort the people that there is a caring God, who is the author of creation. He has indicated that God is the only one who knows how old the earth is, and the answers to this are found in His word. After reading the book, I am of the opinion that Wise was not writing the book to correct or convince critics. I believe that this book was meant to instill more faith in Christians. Personally, I find it more credible to believe in a Supreme Being who created people, rather than believe that I evolved from a monkey or other animals. I agree with Wise that it is not possible to reconcile the idea of evolution, especially old chronology, with God’s creation. The two theories do not have common evidence.
