Science
Science is a broad area that has seen different people define it in different ways. At the mention of the word science, it triggers mixed reactions in the minds of people. Some remembers the textbooks, white lab coats, physics, Einstein equations telescope and all sorts of things. It is important to understand that science covers wide scope and it has so many facets. Therefore, science is all about knowledge and research on how knowledge can be tested and applied in the day-to-day living of the human kind.
According to the American Physical Society (APS), science is defined as a systematic procedure of gathering knowledge about the universe (1). The knowledge gathered is or then organized and condensed into theories and laws that are testable. Science is a process as well as body of knowledge (American Physical Society (APS) (2). The process allows people to discover new knowledge from isolated facts and ideas. The ideas and facts collected enable comprehensive and coherent understandings of our natural world.
Science is also exciting. It is one way of finding out how the universe function by comparing the past the present and finding out how the future is gong to be. It is thrilling to find out how things happen and how the world will be in the future.
Science is also the avenue through which new technologies are developed, new vaccines are invented and other useful things are invented. These inventions are useful in improving the living standards of people.
Science is something that is ongoing. There is no single day that science will be finished. This is because, as time elapses life changes and the universe requires other mechanism to be adapted to ensure survival.
According to my opinion, science is all about searching for new way of doing things. It is uncertain and subject to many revisions. Science involve thinking “beyond the box” in trying to find out what others do not think about. Therefore, in trying to arrive at the possible solution to a problem, scientists engage in many experiments and assumptions that finally may bear fruit or fail to provide a solution to the problem. Furthermore, science is not about objectivity but rather subjectivity. Science does not provide right answers to phenomena or events but rather it provides insights to how certain things do happens and behaves the way they do. A good example is the explanation of how earth rotates around the sun. Such findings are as a result of science which sought to discover how the universe functions.
Science is based on hypothesis, which must be tested to authenticate the results or the investigation being carried out. For a scientific discovery of knowledge to be identified, an individual goes through several steps and guesses. From this guesses and assumptions substantial information or knowledge is identified and used in advancing certain things in life. Therefore, science is not a miracle but a systematic process that goes through several steps and process before a discovery or knowledge is revealed.
In conclusion, it is imperative to note that science is a diverse subject that has kept on evolving from time in memorial. Several things have been discovered that have assisted human kind in understanding the reality of the universe. Science has also enabled people to come up with knowledge that has contributed in making life easier. Another characteristics of science is that it aims at explaining why the universe is the way it is. Science is a wide topic that touches almost to every aspect of our daily life.
