-1- Many plans developed as strategic plans are really not strategic plans. How would a strategic plan be defined for your organization? What components should be included in the planning efforts and the final plan? How are operational plans defined, and what do they contain?

-2- Not all organizations can engage in strategic planning because of a number of factors. The organization needs to determine whether it is ready to undertake the process. How would an organization assess its readiness to develop a strategic process and plan? What would be included in the process?

-3- In the public and not-for-profit sectors, there are many individuals and groups who impact on your functions. They are called stakeholders, and they also impact any planning process that the organization undertakes. What role should they play in the process? What does the organization need to do to engage them in the process? How will success be determined?

-4- Vision and mission statements provide information about the organization. What are they? How should they be developed and used?

-5- An environmental scanning process involves both internal and external factors. These factors are frequently categorized as strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Why do we need to know how the environmental factors can be categorized? How are they used in strategic planning?

6. As part of your strategic plan, you have developed a number of goals, objectives,
and strategies to move your organization toward your vision. What criteria would you use to evaluate your strategies for inclusion in your plan? What are performance measures, and how will you develop and use them in your plan?
