Texting while driving

Texting while driving

Technology has made people’s lives easier in different ways and the most significant is through the use of the text messages. Text messages are usually short messages that add up to approximately one hundred and sixty words through the use of the phone. In the current society, people have heavily relied on their phones since there are special features that assist to make their communication to be easy in their complex mode of living. Through the use of these phones, people have found it better and quicker to exchange messages from one partner to another.

Texting while driving can be a quicker method of getting to people especially when there are urgent messages to be sent. Therefore, texting has enhanced a quicker approach of getting to reach people. Text messaging was actually developed as a way of defining a shorter and faster communication.

It is also unfortunate that texting has become a dilemma when it comes to driving. Although using the mobile phones while driving has been considered as a dangerous activity, the threat is more significant when the text messages are introduced. Text messages have become a vital social behavior from the time mobile devices were introduced.   Different variety of cell phones have been developed, for instance the iPhone, black berry which have assisted individuals to progress in their communication while they are still working on other things (Neustein 57). Therefore it cannot be put into context that texting while driving can provide convenience that cannot be speculated. The fact is that, at what certain aspect do people select safety in the terms of convenience. Studies have proved that texting while driving has serious and dangerous outcomes; therefore it is the obligation of people to ensure that they avoid texting while driving.

Driving requires all the concentrations and in addition the brain is always put in to focus in one area. Studies explain that texting while driving has a negative impact on the driver’s skills. The reaction of the driver becomes slow. Therefore if something destructs the driver the probability of causing an accident is very high. Current statistics have signified that high rate of accidents have occurred globally as a result of texting while driving (Leon-Guerrero 45). It is true that texting can take approximately five seconds to take the concentration to the cell phone but the seconds are enough to cause an accident. Every individual understands that texting while driving is dangerous but people are still in the mid-set of performing the activity while they are aware of its consequences.

Texting while driving can have both positive impact and negative effects. Texting is not an offense; every individual has a right to use a cell phone and more so text messages to other people. The fact remains that text messages are supposed to be used effectively in appropriate places. Therefore, I strongly disagree with the concept that supports texting while driving since it is a death provoking activity that a driver can be subjected to. One of the leading aspects of car crashes globally is the inability of the driver to concentrate. A research done by National traffic administration in 2007 shows that approximately 75% of car crashes are as a result of the driver receiving destruction within five seconds. A driver concentrating on texting within five seconds can only put a little concentration on the road for 2 seconds within those five seconds, hence this means that a driver traveling 50 miles in one hour could actually drive a two hundred meters without focusing on the road. This clearly illustrates that there is high probability of causing an accident.
