WGU Online School
Why WGU Online Is Right for Me
The initial years of a child’s life are the most important in their development because their life is shaped from experiences of the early years. At this tender age, children are vulnerable to the society. Ever since my teenage years, I have had a passion to teach young children. Working with children is always a joy for me. Children are not only innocent but they also make the world appear so simple. The success of young children is my number one priority. The social evils in the world seem to be increasing everyday. My desire is to influence the children in a positive way despite the hardships that they face in their homes. The economy of the present times has forced many parents to take up additional jobs, which allow them to meet the unlimited needs at home. Being a teacher provides the opportunity of influencing the children who go to school in a positive way by building their character. I have the experience that comes with taking care of children in a daycare. My experience with children was wonderful but I hope to develop my career by taking a Bachelor of Arts program in early childhood offered at the WesternGovernorsUniversity.
Besides the fact that I have a passion for young children, this program will equip me with the skills that I lack such as writing, communications and math. On the other hand, the program presents an opportunity to strengthen the abilities I currently have. The license provided at the end of the degree program will open doors that will enable me to work as a profession. The other reason why I feel that this program is right for me is because it is offered online. This means not attending classes. I will have the chance of meeting other teachers and benefit from their experiences. Moreover, the course does not require me to learn things I already know. I only need to pass the assessments to be qualified.
WGU Competency Model
The WesternGovernorsUniversity is designed to offer competency learning. The courses are presented online and there is no need to attend classes. Besides, the institution does not have a campus. The competency model was structured to benefit students who already have experience in a particular field of study. Traditionally, students were required to attend classes and repeat the same lessons even though they had the experience. However, the competency model provides licenses to students who exhibit competence. To demonstrate their proficiency, students are required to complete the assessment tests provided for the coursework. If a student is able to complete these tests successfully, they do not have to take the course for the whole semester. Coursework is not the only requirement; students also have to participate in the exercises offered such as teaching an assigned class.
The competency model is structured to allocate mentors to each student. The mentor has the responsibility of helping students throughout their course. These mentors have the experience and knowledge relating to specific fields. The human contact makes the model efficient and effective because of the additional accountability received by the students. One of the key benefits of the model is the cost effectiveness. Both the students and the institution benefit from this reduced cost. The model further saves time that would be spend moving from one place to another to attend lessons. Similarly, the duration covered by the programs is reduced significantly. The space utilized by the campus can also be assigned for the opportunity cost. Moreover, students who once lacked the opportunity to go to school because of different circumstances now have a chance to learn and obtain the necessary certificates. The competency model adopted by the WesternGovernorsUniversity has utilized technology in the best way possible.
