Write a research essay of 2500-3000 words that describes, investigates and responds to one of the research questions raised in Chapters 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, OR 11 in America Now (2015).
Note: You do NOT have to write on the chapter that was the subject of your groups presentation.
In case you’ve forgotten, the research questions for each chapter are as follows:
Ch. 1: What do we gain and what do we lose when communicating through social media?
Ch. 2: Do the words we use matter?
Ch. 3: Is free speech endangered on campus? Or, more specifically: Should colleges adopt trigger warnings?
Ch. 4: What does diversity mean for Americans today?
Ch. 5: Does racial identity still matter?
Ch. 6: Can the Second Amendment survive?
Ch. 7: Should college athletes be paid?
Ch. 11: Do we need feminism?
Research papers that do not answer one of these questions will be considered off-topic and will receive an automatic 0.
The research paper is due Monday, May 4, and is worth 25% of your course grade.
You must use at least 10, but no more than 15, critical/secondary sources. Use the skills you have developed completing the English 120 coursework to identify excellent sources and seamlessly incorporate them into your essay. Correctly document your citations using MLA style documentation and include a separate Works Cited page. Your sources will probably come from multiple academic fields, but each author must be an authority in her/his field. Note: You may only count two (2) of the readings from your chapter in America Now toward your total of 10-15 sources for your essay. (However, you may use as many sources from your chapter as you find useful–you just cant count more than two.)
Double-space your essay, of course.
