In many ways, World War One was a break point between the old and the new. Old values and institutions fell along with old empires, with new ones taking their place. The United States is dragged reluctantly into the conflict towards the end, emerging as one of the major powers in the world. Voices previously disregarded now become more vocal, insisting upon having their rights recognized. Read chapter 19 in your “Voices of Freedom” source reader and then write a two page minimum essay discussing how American involvement in the First World War brought about this transformation into the modern world.
