Introduction
In 2009, I got involved in I bad car accident that ended with me being hospitalized for a period of one month. This was because I incurred several severe injuries in my body including a partial memory loss. This was still the period I was in college pursuing my academics in my final senior year. In addition, I had four kids and a husband who demanded a lot of attention from me. This was very hectic for me because at that moment, I did not have a house help. I had also pitched nerves in my neck and disc herniations that had slipped in my back. This situation gave me a lot of discomfort throughout the learning period of which I finished my college in pain and still undergoing medications..
Specific steps to success
Through all those tribulations, I still had the academic and domestic goal to achieve. In this way, I had to balance my academics, my family chores and my medications. My life encompassed several important tools of success. First, I made sure that my goals and objectives where elaborate and specific. Meaning that, I kept a clear analysis of my intentions and purposes. This was done through identifying the chores that my family needed and my education too. In addition, I was to plan on my medication in a way to depict that I was careful about my health. It is important to analyze goals in order to come up with short-term and long-term goals. My long-term goal was education followed by medication and lastly my family. This was successful through emphasis on the specific goals according to urgency. On my case, I laid more concern with the immediate issues that was happening to me. This was because if I had poor health, then I could not serve my family and my academics as well. This triggered me to the point of having a formulated plan. This plan engulfed prescriptions of time management through which I had to plan my timetable regarding my studies and other chores that surrounded my life.
After having drawn my plan on how to accomplish all these obligations at hand, I had to take action to perform. Procrastination was no longer in my dictionary for this was to facilitate accomplishment of tasks in their specified period. In performing these tasks, I employed consideration in formulating steps to use as guidance towards realizing my goals. Every morning, I could wakeup at four with a positive mood to serve my children and my husband. In my mind through all those tribulations, my core factor was excelling in my final exam. That is why I had to keep reviewing and reaffirming my goal so that I may keep the faith of excellence. It was important of me to visualize because to achieve a goal, the dream must be kept alive in the mind. Visualization included keeping my goal in focus in everything that I did and by always motivating myself incase of any discouragement.
It took me a longer period to discover that I was successful and this helped me realize the value of patience. Success to me was a feeling of satisfaction that is accompanied by enthusiasm. After all that was ahead of me was accomplished the way I wanted, I felt success in my life. In short, my short-term goal assisted in realizing the long-term goal in such a way that I excelled academically and I recovered my health. After I had evaluated my goals, I saw that I had achieved and with this, I assumed the steps that I followed were valid.
How will you apply that experience to set goals and measure your success in the classroom?
Though this was a tough experience, goal setting was the key point to achieve success. In many situations like this where things are happening simultaneously, it requires that there be a formulation of a plan. Experience is an important tool in sharpening the mode of thinking through boundary elimination in the intelligence capacity. To measure success in the classroom, an individual has to set achievable goals with consideration of both long and short-term goals. In addition, one has to focus on the key factors of academics for him or her to achieve his goal.
